Ramadan is the month of blessing, and getting married is itself a blessing. How about combining these two blessings together? Can you get married during Ramadan?

So, if you are a young individual, and thinking about whether you can get married in Ramadan or not, this article has a lot to inform you about this.

Can You Get Married During Ramadan?

There’s nothing wrong with getting married in Ramadan. In fact, there’s no restriction to get married in any other month or on a specific day whatsoever. It is permissible on any day and any moment of the year.

But, don’t jump to a conclusion yet. Because marrying in Ramadan comes with consequences that are pretty heavy.

Immediately after marriage, the temptation and affection between a husband and wife stays at its peak. Accidents (intercourse) can happen while fasting, and it will end up giving expensive expiation.

As this month is all about spirituality, and refraining from eating, drinking, and having intercourse during the day, having a newly-wed wife can cause issues controlling one’s desire. And this can happen from the wife as well.

But if someone is certain that he will not have intercourse whatsoever during the day while fasting, then this shouldn’t be any problem.

However, still Ramadan isn’t the perfect time for getting married. It is the month of worship. And when you bring your newly married wife, you would want to spend all day and night with her.

Usually, it happens that during a few months after getting married, it’s hard for a regular person to focus on his/her regular worships. Even though you pray 5 times a day, still the chances are high that your heart won’t sit for the prayer, your focus will be in the house where your wife is. And this is very common, and there’s nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn’t restrain someone from doing the obligatory worship.

Based on that, you may not feel spiritually high just after getting married in Ramdan. Your fasting will be more like dry-fasting, without any dhikr, devotion, and remembrance to Allah SWT. You may also end up missing the taraweeh prayer.

If you are a practising Muslim the value of Ramadan is clear to you than a regular Muslim. Still if you get married in Ramadan, it will highly affect your worship and devotion to your Lord. That can be the worst Ramadan you would ever experience.

Therefore, it is best to avoid marriage during Ramadan for the sake of fasting in a proper manner with full devotion to your Lord the most high.

When Marrying in Ramadan Will Not Affect

Just after marriage, if the husband and wife do not live together, or the husband stays in the office or a factory or away from home for business, then there will not be such affection and desire between people. If this is the case, you have no reason to delay the marriage. Getting married in Ramadan will not affect your devotion, fasting, and other worship.

Can You Kiss Your Wife During Ramadan?

As far as kissing on the cheek or her skin, there should not be a problem.

But if you are someone who cannot control the desire, you should restrain yourself from doing anything like this.

Aa’isha Radiallahu Anha said –

“The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to kiss and be intimate when fasting, and he was the most able of you to control his desire.” [Al Bukhari and Muslim]

Keep in mind the intimacy here is not referring to the intercourse.

Can Married Couple Have Sex During Ramadan?

A couple can enjoy each other by having intercourse during the night in Ramadan. But, during the day, while fasting, it is a major sin to have intercourse.

If someone does this forbidden act, he will have to free a slave, or fast for two consecutive months, or feed 60 poor persons. So, the expiation for breaking obligatory fast in Ramadan without any legit reason including having intercourse is pretty strict and hard.
