How to Stop Masturbation for Women in Islam?

Masturbation is one of the issues that most young boys and girls struggle with. This struggle is present in practicing Muslims too. After masturbation, the feeling of deep regret comes and leaves people depressed. A Muslim girl masturbating is as sinful as a Muslim boy does it.

However, If you are here looking for ways to stop masturbation for women in Islam or how to stop masturbation forever permanently in Islam, here is the answer “In Islam, women can stop masturbation by strengthening their faith, seeking support from family and community, engaging in productive activities, and observing modesty to avoid triggers. It’s essential to seek guidance from a knowledgeable scholar or counselor for further assistance.”

Is Masturbation Haram?

Before you get right into the main discussion, we must know if masturbation is haram or not. Allah SWT says in the Quran –

Are you looking for a

“And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts). Except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, – for them, they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors.” (Al-Muminun 23:5-7)

Based on this verse, scholars including Imam Shafi’i stated that masturbation is haram. This verse forbids all sexual acts except for having sex with wives and slaves. So, under this ruling, masturbation comes too.

There is a hadith in Sahih Al-Bukhari –

‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ud said, “We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while we were young and had no wealth whatsoever. Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.'” (Al-Bukhari 5066)

Based on the above-mentioned hadith, it is recommended that unmarried people should lower their gaze, guard their private parts, and fast to diminish sexual power. Fasting will keep the desire down, and will not lead to such haram sexual acts.

What If the Husband is Unable to Satisfy Her?

Although the basic ruling on masturbation is that it is a haram and sinful act, scholars have permitted this act for only a few conditions. One of those is if a husband cannot fully satisfy his wife by sexual intercourse, then it is permissible for the husband to masturbate for the wife using this hand.

So, the husband can stimulate her by masturbation before and after having intercourse if his wife wants.

This is in case of absolute necessity. If the woman is not satisfied physically, then it can make her fall for Zina and other fitnah. So, following the lesser of two evils, masturbation is allowed for the wife to prevent her from committing a bigger sin than this one. But, scholars highly recommend that this act should be done by the husband’s hand.

If you are unmarried, and reading this article, this section can make you think that masturbation is also permissible for you if you think that you might end up doing zina. This would be an absolutely wrong understanding. The exception is only for married people only, because falling in fitnah becomes severe for married individuals, so scholars have made an exception on the basis of the principle of fiqh.

1. Purify Your Intention

How to Stop Masturbation for Women in Islam, Purify Your Intention

Before you even adopt a sustainable solution to the issue, be sure to purify your intention that you are seeking the cure to please Allah, and fulfill his orders, because you fear his punishment.

If you strive hard to be patient and chaste, Allah will make you so if He finds you persistently trying to achieve that. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said –

“Whoever seeks chastity Allah will make him chaste, and whoever seeks help from none but Allah, He will help him, and whoever is patient He will make it easy for him, and no one has ever been given anything better than patience.” (Al-Bukhari:1469)

2. Get Married

Get Married

The most effective and logical solution to this problem is to get married as soon as possible. Get married to a religious and righteous person, things will be a lot easier for you to get rid of this sinful act. Once you find pleasure in halal means, the haram way will not bother you much.

3. Keep Yourself Busy

Desires and temptations remain low when someone keeps herself busy. Keep yourself busy in both worldly and hereafter matters. It will help you a lot to break this bad habit. When you will be extremely busy, you will not even have the urge to do this thing.

4. Lower Your Gaze

Lower Your Gaze

No solution will work if you do not lower your gaze from stuff that triggers you to masturbate. Women do not take ‘not looking at non-mahrams’ commands seriously. It is not only for men; women have to do it too to keep their chest protected from haram stuff like masturbation.

Allah SWT says in the Quran –

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things) and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is all-aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things) and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) ..” (24: 30-31)

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said –

“Do not follow a casual (unintentional) look (at forbidden things) with another look.” (Al-Tirmidhi, 2777)

5. Devote Yourself to the Worship

During your leisure time, make more dhikr, adhkar, and other forms of worship to make the connection between you and your Lord stronger, and to get closer to him. The stronger the connection becomes, the more power you will have to fight against this matter.

6. Beware of Shaitan

For some specific cases, especially for married individuals, it is somewhat permissible for them to masturbate if they fear doing fornication or homosexual acts. You, as an unmarried person, do not consider this option at all. Even if a married woman does this without any reason, feeling the sexual urge, making it a habit to do regularly, this would be haram and a major sin. It is not for pleasure whenever the person wants, it is as a last resort.

7. Do Not Spend Time Alone

Do Not Spend Time Alone

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said in a hadith –

“Do not spend the night alone” (Ahmad, 6919)

This is really important to get rid of this private sin. Shaitan plays with us the most when someone is alone and wasting time without any reason. Therefore, keep yourself in good company. Do not spend the day locking your door. If you use a smartphone and laptop, use these devices in a common room to close all the doors of Shaitan giving you the waswasa of doing that haram thing.

8. Frequent Fasting

After keeping yourself busy, fasting would be the most effective way to keep your sexual desire under control. The more you fast, the better you will be able to control your desires and lusts.

However, you cannot fast every single day. For example, if you fast on Monday, do not fast the next day. Or fast on Monday and Tuesday, and do not fast on Wednesday. This is the sunnah way of fasting.

Keep in mind that when you will be breaking the fast, do not eat an overwhelming amount of food. Fasting will only work if you consume a small amount of food, and keep your ⅓ portion of your stomach empty. Otherwise, if you fast, and keep without any limits, your desires will get over your control.

May try to use medication to diminish their sexual urge, which is prohibited, because it may affect their sexual ability permanently.

9. Follow the Basic Sunnah of Sleeping

Inappropriately sleeping can trigger masturbation urges in some individuals. Therefore, following basic etiquette of going to bed should be strictly followed. Recite specific supplications, sleep on your right side, and do not sleep on your belly, which Prophet Muhammad ﷺ strictly forbade.

10. Repent If You Do It Again

If you commit the sin again, be hasten to repeat it sincerely, and ask Allah’s forgiveness. Do good deeds to erase the bad deeds. And do not feel despair. If you lose hope, it would be another major sin, which is something Shaitan wants you to feel.

11. Give Yourself Some Punishment

For each time you masturbate, make sure you offer a specific rakah of salah that is hard to do. You can set 8-10 rakah because it is time-consuming and not that easy.

You can also donate a specific amount of money that matters to you. Say, each time you masturbate, donate $5-$10, more or less as per your ability.

These punishments will not make you feel like doing it again.

12. Keep Reminding Yourself

Consistently remind yourself about Allah SWT and his commands. Remember that his commands are greater than following your desire. The pleasure that comes with that act will vanish pretty soon and will leave you depressed. But if you do not do the act considering Allah’s command, he will give you tranquility in your heart. Do not sacrifice your Iman for a pleasure that lasts only a few minutes.

Although there is no specific dua to stop masturbation, you can make dua in your own language. Surround yourself with the Quran, this really helps to keep your spiritual level higher.

      • Read the article again, there’s a lot of ahadith about it, and plus it’s common sense, it brings you closer to zina. Anything that brings you closer to the haram is considered haram
